The Penn Ridge Kennel Club has a long history of community
involvment.
Each year through our events we have been able to donate
back to the community in support of various dog related chartible organizations.
Donations in recent years have included Take the Lead (http://www.takethelead.org),
a non-profit organization which helps terminally/chronically ill people in
the dog community and the AKC/CAR Katrina and Disaster Relief Funds. We have
helped our local humane societies and supported organizations that help supply
the war dogs and the dogs who assist in disasters such as after 9/11.
Our shows have brought tourists and revenue to our area
each year to support local businesses.
Canine Learning Experience
Every January the Penn Ridge Kennel Club participates in
the Canine Learning Experience in Allentown, PA. This all day event, with its
many exhibits and lectures, helps educate the public on all aspects of dog
ownership care, health and enjoyment. In 2006 the theme of the Penn Ridge
Kennel Club booth, which was awarded second prize, was ILP Registration and
Competitive AKC Events open to ILP dogs.
In 2007, the Penn Ridge Kennel Club Positive Identification
booth was awarded second prize.
Septemberfest
In 2006, the Penn Ridge Kennel Club held its first Canine
Septemberfest... much more than a match, with many lectures, demonstrations,
and a costume contest... a fun filled educational day for the dog lovers in
our communities... See Septemberfest for
more details.
PA Farm Show
Farm to Fun - Dogs Do It All
In 2008, the Penn Ridge Kennel Club was invited to co-sponsored
the “ Farm to Fun – Dogs Do It All “ event at the PA Farm
Show.
This program was presented to a capacity audience on Sunday
evening. The program focused on how different breeds were developed to be outstanding
at certain tasks in everyday farm life, in this case herding, and how those
same traits help make these breeds superior performers in various competition
and fun activities today. There were search & rescue dogs, a face paced
agility competiton, flyball demonstration, firemen and their dogs, and a professional
Frisbee dog act to entertain and educate.
The PA Farm Show is the largest agricultural
event in the country, and the Penn Ridge Kennel Club is proud to co-sponsor
the Sunday afternoon/evening dog event to educate the public on how many activities
are available for dog enthusiasts to enjoy.
Student Art Contest
In 2005 the Penn Ridge Student Art Contest was initiated
to promote responsible dog ownership while recognizing the talent of the area's
young artists. (see Student Art Contest for additional information)
Awareness & Education
Our Match Shows have been an introduction to area dog enthusiasts
who want to learn about shows and get their young exhibits ready for the show
ring. Our meetings have hosted a variety of educational programs covering many
topics of interest to dog owners and breeders. In addition, we sponsore
clinics to make vacinations and health testing available, and we have participated
in the Quakertown Pet Fair.
